Frequently Asked Questions

  • Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach to mental health care that combines traditional psychiatric interventions with evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies. It emphasizes the integration of biological, psychological, social, and spiritual factors to understand and address mental health concerns. Integrative psychiatrists often consider a range of treatment modalities, including medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle interventions, nutritional support, and mind-body practices. The goal is to provide comprehensive and personalized care that addresses the root causes of mental health issues and promotes overall well-being.

  • I do not work with insurance companies, but this doesn’t mean your health insurance will not cover part of the cost of my services.

I can provide superbills that you may use to get reimbursed using your out of network benefits. You will need to check your out-of-network coverage with your insurance.

  • If that has worked well for you in the past, I’m guessing you probably wouldn’t be reading this! If you are satisfied with seeing someone for a 10-15 minute visit every few months for medication refills and little else, then an in-network psychiatrist may be the best fit for you. An out-of-network psychiatrist, like me, would be an excellent fit for you if you are interesting in the following:

    • A psychiatrist who can take more time with you during and between visits to work on your personalized goals

    • A multidisciplinary trauma-informed approach that honors your wisdom and preferences

    • Evidence-informed, integrative psychiatry that is difficult to find in community health settings

    • Easy, hassle-free scheduling and communication with your psychiatrist between visits

    • Making an investment in your health and well-being

As an integrative psychiatrist, I offer a holistic approach to care that incorporates both traditional psychiatric treatments and complementary therapies. By not taking insurance, I can offer a more comprehensive and personalized approach to your care, without being limited by time or insurance restrictions.

  • I do not offer a sliding scale. I charge all patients the same fee to be fair.

  • Intake appointments are preferably in-person, but can be telepsych if distance prohibits in-person visits. Followup appointments may be either in-person or telepsych. Patients must be located in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire for telepsych appointments.

  • I treat patients 18-55 years old.

  • All appointments must be cancelled at least 24 business hours in advance. You are otherwise responsible for the full appointment fee.

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a unique approach to psychotherapy using eye movements to replace negative images in the mind, that cause symptoms, with positive images. Unlike other therapies, you may find relief in a few sessions, often just one to three sessions! ART is both creative and procedural, and one unique aspect compared to other therapy modalities is that trauma does not need to be discussed in great detail. You are in control during ART; I will be your helpful guide.

  • Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, in combination with behavioral therapies, in the treatment of substance use disorders. Research shows that a combination of medication and therapy can successfully treat substance use disorders, and for some medications can help sustain recovery. Medications are also used to prevent or reduce overdose.

In my practice, I use the following FDA approved medications for substance use:

    • Medications for Alcohol Use Disorder (MAUD): Acamprosate, Disulfiram, and Naltrexone

    • Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD): Buprenorphine and Naltrexone
